Creative, yes…but it’s not about me.
Well, this is the “About Me” section, but I’m talking about what motivates my creative process. Designing with and advocating for a customer focus has been the driving principle behind all I do. I’ve been at it for many years and have honed my design chops fairly well, but if the customer isn’t impressed neither should I be…nor you…nor anyone with any stake in a project.
I understand that businesses offer products or services with the end goal of generating a profit. My aim is to translate your expertise and marketing objectives into emotionally-engaging communication that resonates with customers and fulfills their desire for high quality and good value. Perhaps you have a complex product or service that needs to be explained in order to generate interest. First you need to attract attention; you probably have 1 or 2 ideas about how to do that. But I can offer 20 ways you might not have thought of that are proven to work more quickly…then at the right moment delve in deeply, speaking to the customer on their terms, completing the exchange—or closing the deal.
Whether you wish to convey an image that is cutting-edge or more traditional, I don’t advocate a reliance on gimmicks that will cheapen your brand. Your customer doesn’t need or want that either, to which user-testing and A/B testing will reliably attest. They enjoy being moved…not so much getting bogged down in techno-fluff.
But now a little “about me”: I am formally trained in Graphic Design and have a wide range of experience, including print design and production, signage and environmental displays, and for the past 15 years, design of all things web. Whether it’s responsive website/page design, email promotions, or social media promos/banners, I’ve had my hand in just about anything an online retailer like Plow&Hearth and it’s sister brands might need. I know when it is proper to sell the product and when it’s more appropriate to “sell the click”. I have exhibited an understanding of the business needs behind every project, such that I typically pilot new initiatives and provide the model for my teammates and their respective brands. My technical and organizational skills are a particular strength, establishing solid processes and eliminating duplication of effort. I am accustomed to working at a vigorous pace with no loss of quality. I make it a point to keep sharp my html and css skills, as evidenced in this self-designed and coded portfolio website. I chose purposely to not employ every new trick imaginable, but only those which communicate who I am and what I do in the best possible way and would apply the same logic toward any project. The results will speak for themselves.
